MISSION

With a strong focus on eco-consciousness, MHPG identified the importance of revolutionizing the student housing sector by implementing sustainable initiatives that align with the growing demand for environmentally responsible living spaces.  As the inaugural project undertaken in 2020, "Catalina" at the University of Southern California embodies this vision and embraces sustainability as a long-term investment strategy, recognizing the resilience of the student housing market even during economic downturns. Given the sheer volume of student housing in the US, it is imperative to address environmental concerns and pave the way for a more sustainable future.

Catalina boasts a range of sustainable features, starting with solar panels that harness the power of renewable energy. These panels not only reduce our carbon footprint but also provide a reliable and clean energy source for our residents, lowering utility costs and promoting a greener lifestyle.

In line with our commitment to sustainability, our student housing units showcase green laminate flooring. Carefully crafted from sustainable materials, this flooring not only adds aesthetic appeal but also reduces waste and promotes responsible sourcing practices.

Moorehouse understands the importance of energy efficiency, both for environmental sustainability and financial savings. Therefore, all MHPG housing units are equipped with energy-efficient appliances that leverage advanced technology to minimize energy consumption, offering optimal performance while reducing environmental impact.

COMMON AREA BEFORE & AFTER

Water conservation is another key aspect of our sustainability initiatives. Our student housing units feature water-efficient fixtures that promote responsible water usage without compromising comfort or convenience. In addition, we have implemented a state-of-the-art irrigation system that closely regulates water distribution, ensuring efficient and effective water management.

This was done while honoring original character elements of the property, such as exposing the circa-1905 fireplace and maintaining original window detailing.

Additionally, MHPG supplied all common area furniture to the students, including:

  • Large sectional

  • Energy-efficient Smart TV

  • 9-person dining table and chairs

  • Kitchen counter seating

This was intentional to ensure a space that would foster community, collaboration, and positive well-being during a pivotal time in these students' lives.

At MHPG, we believe that sustainable living should be accessible to all. By spearheading socially and environmentally responsible practices in the student housing sector, we aim to inspire change and set new standards for a brighter future while honoring the past.
